I agree with woowoo, however I just want to let everyone know this was there and I moved it to the news section when it was first posted. I'm going to move this back to the CoD4 section as it will get more exposure now that it's off the main page (other news posted)

Did either of you have a windows update just before you got hit with this violation?

I asked because that is a theory floating around the pbbans forums now on this subject. A person I trust also got hit with this yesterday and has been playing after the initial wave of bans without worry. They said the only thing that changed on there computer was a windows update.

The only difference with my computer today, is that it was trying to do windows updates. I saw messages that it tried to update and it didn't seem to go through and then it said it was reverting. Could be something or nothing.
from pbbans forums:

Please check if the bans happened right after installing Windows Update KB2670838! This Update does something to the Graphics in BF3 (green streets etc.)!

Maybe it gives a violation in CoD4 and doesn´t give a violation in BF3 because BF3 doesn´t use CVAR!

***
KB2670838 modify a couple of AERO features! Maybe this causes the violation...

***
Aimbot #50710 is not a CVAR violation. Though I agree last Patch Tuesday did do something. It fixed cod4 [pbcl.dll crash] and win8 Might be worth a look into

So go to uninstall programs and click view installed updates. It will display the date when the update was installed. Maybe, just maybe this update was installed right before you all got popped for this violation. Of course most are saying this is not the cause.

Hey Ski, thanks for the heads up, seeing as I can't look at the PBBans forums ;)

I have to agree with the 'most' on this occasion as I have recent Win7 updates, but not this one.

Again, thanks for the heads up! Very much appreciated.

Sorry @ Cannon Fodder, I've had a busy few days mate, I will hopefully get chance to post over the weekend.

Just checked windows update and that update was installed on 28/02/2013 and ban was not until 16/03/2013.

However if there has be silent monitoring as has been suggested in some EB replies then we cant rule out the time delay??

Has the mood in the PBBans forums move to the fact this is a fake ban? I have a reply from EB to say this is a PBBan ban and they are happy for PBBans to revoke it. I will put a ticket in to have them do that if they are moving towards accepting this is a false ban.

I can not say PBBans appears to be swaying to this being a false-positive. They seem to still be on the party line of "this is a EB issue and when EB removes the ban we will".

You would think with all the attention this is getting that some of the PBBans staff has to be leaning more towards a false-positive, but they have their rules and are sticking by the rules.

Did you say EB says they will remove it? If that is the case PBBans should also be willing to remove it.

One other curious thing I noticed with a friend of mine that has gotten hit by this ban. After they were hit they stopped streaming their servers to PBBans. They still have PB enabled, they just removed the IP lines to shut off streaming to the PBBans hub. This person can NOW play on the servers without getting a PB kick for this violation. But because PBBans instantly added the GUID to the MBi they can not enter a streaming server. Nothing has changed on their computer, but now they can play on a PB server that is not streaming and NOT get kicked. Very strange.

They said there was windows updates that were happening when they got picked up for this, so maybe it triggered something that one time, and now its not.

Or maybe the "silent logging" needs to happen a while before they will be re-kicked for this. Either way its really strange and totally looks to be a false positive to me. Hope they get this all worked out properly for all you wrongly caught.

Well I took the plunge

Ok I took the plunge and appeal to PBBans to remove my ban.
I was polite and this is what I put

I have had a reply from Even Balance saying that you are the ones that have banned me and the violation was not issued by them. They have said it is up to you to remove this ban. I have read this to be that EB and thus Punk Buster have not issued this ban and they are happy for you to remove it.
There has been loads of bans of this type recently and lots of talk of it being a false positive as it is in my case.
I have also read into the reply from EB that my machine has not triggered any of their detections.
I can happily play on PB enabled servers but only have an issue with PBBans streaming ones.
Please remove this ban so I can play in the servers I like which stream your software.

this is the reply I had from EB (if I havent posted it before)

03/20/2013 17:33:40 - "Alex J"
Note #5: PBBans.com would be the third party ban admin in your case.
03/19/2013 15:10:19 - "CannonFodder"
Note #4: Who is the third party ban list administrator so I can contact them directly.
03/19/2013 14:11:53 - "Alex J"
Note #3: We do not find this violation to be triggered in error, and it will not be removed. It is at the discretion of the third-party ban list administrator to remove any ban given as a result of this violation.

Lets see what happens

My most recent response from EB:

Note #4: If you think you have found a program that causes false detections contact our email

research@evenbalance.com

Send the file, any information (GUID, playername), and the violation it falsely triggered.
So it seems they have shifted from denying there is a problem, to saying we need to do their homework for them. Lame.

I have a member of mine who has been banned because of this pb cock up.I can say with absolute certainty that he would never cheat he's 64 and been playing for absolutely years. As one of my senior admins i have absolute trust and faith in him and all he gets is some crappy copy and paste garbage from evenbalance. The sooner they sort this out the better i'm now so concerned at the amount of bans being handed out for this that i've stopped playing on cod4 pb servers until they've fixed it seeing how they won't even explain what is causing the bans to be given i won't take the risk.I've even tried contacting evenbalance myself on his behalf and been completely ignored

PBBans have replied kind of

I got a reply from PBBans to my appeal, was surprised at the speed I think it was next morning. Surprise surprise its an automated email that I can't reply to saying request denied. Nothing else. No explanation of why no reasoning at all just a plain no. It appears both EB and PBBans have missed the concept of customer service. I wish we could get away with such a short no nonsense answer to a customer and still expect any business from them. Well I was going to upgrade from cod4 to black ops 2 but guess what....

Sorry, to read the news Cannon. I can not say I am not surprised. While I understand the reasoning PBBans in using, I certainly hope behind the scenes someone from PBBans is working with EB to figure this out. I find it hard to believe they do not realize there are a lot of false-positives mixed in with this ban wave.

Funny thing, there have been no more of these issues since the 26th, like the switch was turned back off or something.

Hey guys, sorry it has been a while.

Sorry to hear about your woes and none helpful EB / PBBan replies also.

I would like to start by saying that I can confirm that my personal dispute with PBBans has now been resolved.

MayDax PB Bans developer has worked with me (Though he may not see it that way) to resolve the issues and concerns I had. A lot of to and from e-mails and perhaps a few too many angry exchanges from my side of the fence but the man has come good in the end.

I'm not going to disclose any of the facts, but would stress, my issues were none ban related. PB Bans have a firm stand point in relation to PunkBuster bans and so they should, it is after all what they are all about.

Without request, I bring this matter up because I realise I was perhaps a little harsh on them in my initial postings here. For that I now publicly apologise.

Should this ban ever receive false positive status, I'd like to hope that I could stream with PB Bans again in the future, however, I don't think I will hold my breath. Would not think I have too many friends left behind their scenes.

==========
Uneven Imbalance (Even Balance) are the chaps I hope now to turn some attention to.

Thanks @Arbopa for the e-mail, I have just mailed them and will await a response before I post back here.

Many people have said they keep trying to replicate events we have been hit with, but they have been unsuccessful. Sorry but if your PC has not had issues to begin with, is that not rather like trying to adding a needle to a haystack 'only without a needle' ?

I have basically offered EB full remote access to my PC with a new installation of MW.

The way I see things, nothing has changed here so my PC should "In theory" be almost auto banned for the same thing again. ?

With full remote access they can view, control and monitor the whole event. Thus capturing all they need to further their research.

Can't see them accepting, that would be too easy, but we shall see.

We have confirmed that non-cheat software caused some of the kicks for Violation #50710. We encourage admins to give players the benefit of the doubt and ignore this violation number; it has been removed from our system
