I say low spec but it wasn't too long ago since my rig was impressive, but that is the way of things with PC's

AMD single core 3400 64bit
2Gb Ram
nVidia 7900GT
WinXP 32bit

Well it runs... Everything on medium and looks nice, I was still getting some slowdowns so I dropped some of the lighting affects. Great it now looks just like Farcry!

So with it running smoothly but looking just like a game of 5 years ago that I can get for a fiver. So it's down to game play for me.

As for the game play, it's confining. You can see a long way but you can't get there. There are always high cliffs in the way. Crytek have used rather crude mechanism to move you around the game. You have to take the path they chose just because it's wide it's still a path. The on the fly weapon mods are not so "on the fly" more stop, and choose. The suit mods are a little faster.

I know it's just a demo but so far not too impressed. Not because I can't see the eye candy. It's that very lack of it that makes me concentrate on the game play. Thats bog standard shooter all the way. If you have a nice shinny quad core, SLi 8800 bad boy then get this game just to see what it's capable of. If you don't have the rig to run it then don't bother cos it's just a shooter and there are plenty of them about.

If your system is not top of the range this game will just get you upset. Leave it some time, in a year or two your PC will be more capable. Eye candy is always nice, once it's stripped out of this game it turns out to be just another shooter.

Interesting. Actually, I have the same impressions of the game. My son (who is hooked on it, so far) and I had an argument about it yesterday. I referred to the game as "just another shooter". My rig is also low-tech, and, while I didn't have any problems playing, the game felt linear and pretty much the same as any other game of its genre. Oh, don't misunderstand, I'm sure, like Pendragon, that if I had a higher-end rig (in progress), I would be wowed by the graphics advancements, but game play? Not so sure. My son really likes the physics...so do I...they're a great touch (for example, he killed a sentry with a chicken he picked up off a table, and thought that was a hoot), but, while they add to the "experience", there's still the same game play.

I haven't tried the MP beta, yet, so I'm not fully judging the game on just the SP demo, but I just wanted to comment on Pendragon's impressions.

TSSPendragon, I have a P4@2.8 (dual core), nvidia 6800 ultra OC 256mb card, with 2gb sys memory and if I have my settings on medium I get lag. You have a single core and seems like you are getting better response. Can you tell me what settings you set your medium spec to, like the lighting, textures, etc?

Thanks,
RR

Well, I went to the oppossite end of the spectrum than you did... Just for Shits and Giggles I loaded this up on one of the Hospital Radiology Workstations today sindce I was reinstalling the OS to redeploy it after anyway... 8-)... These babies are Dell 690 Workstations with two Dual-core Xeons and 6 Gigs of Ram NVIDIA Quadro Graphics and Barco 2048x1536 High Def Monitors... and it looks SWEET! I mean seriously beautiful.

The foliage and the water are absolutely stunning. The character acting was pretty decent and the cutscenes were well done. The sounds were pretty good as well, but the guns were less satisfying to fire than pushing a button on a microwave oven. The AI is really dumb as a sack of hammers and makes me believe waht the COD propaganda says about not releasing the source code to protect their AI... because the AI in Crysis - even on Hardest mode are really, really dumb - like Jessica Simpson with Chicken of the Sea Tuna DUMB.

I also have to agree... I hope that the linearity of this SP Demo is a function of the fact that it IS in fact a Demo, and not indicative of the actual level design for the final product because this is really mice and cheeze gameplay if you strip out the graphics. Kinda like the gaming equivalent of Paris Hilton...

Like the game-whore that I am I'll probably buy this game anyway - just because it looks so good, and I'll be lookin for the mods and playing with that sandbox editor, and I'll be hoping and praying that the full game is something MORE than the demo appears to offer.

I too agree that the demo is extremely linear. Granted, you can take a boat, car or hoof it to get there, but in the end, you still hit one objective followed by the next and do so in that order only. There are no other options.

As for the enemy AI, I could not agree more. They are dumber than a box of rocks. On several occassions, I cloaked myself as the enemy humvee drove by and started firing at the gunner after the vehicle passed. Not only did the driver of the vehicle fail to react to my gunfire, but neither did the gunner that I was shooting. At one point, I abandoned a vehicle in the middle of the road. A few minutes later along comes an AI humvee and it runs smack into the vehicle I left in the road. It continues ramming into it until it got pushed out of the way, even though there was plenty of room to drive around it in the first place. Just about the dumbest AI I can remember in a long time.

As for graphics, I found them very nice in XP and the game ran rather smoothly. I installed it in Vista next to see how it played in dx10 and I must say, this is the only game I have that I prefer to play using my Vista install over XP. It ran just as smooth but the eye candy is phenomenal.

And yes, EA is publishing this game so I will definitely wait before buying just in case EA somhow manages to bungle this release like they did with so many other things. That said, I have alot more faith in this game as it was built by Crytek and not in-house at EA.

After doing some testing with the CPU & GPU benchmarks I think it's worse than I thought. With most games when you drop the graphics settings things run more smoothly but it will still look good.

As I said in the subject line my PC isn't top of the line anymore. But it runs BF:2 at 60-70fps with all of the eye candy, ET:QW very well with the eye candy maxed. So how come the only way to get this game to get over 30fps with Crysis all of the settings on low and at 800x600! I haven't had to run at that rez on any game for years... The damn game now looks like a DirectX 7 or 8 game!!!

For those that haven't seen this game at these settings, you get none of the destructive environment, no dynamic shadows.

My point is, if I have one is this... This game dose not scale. If "scale" is the right word? A good game should run well on a four year old PC. Look good on a two year old machine, and devastating on a new rig.

You would think that with some work on the graphics settings you could get a game to run as well as other games. I know his is crap, you can't expect all games to behave the same way. It's just that this game performs so badly on lower spec PC's.

As for the guy with the duel core PC with 6800, there is a bit of difference between a 6800 and a 7900!

Agreed (I especially like the Paris Hilton comment). The AI are like boxes of rocks (I told my son that they were so dumb that he COULD kill one of them with a chicken), so I hope this is "demo-dumb", too. I've played on a higher-end machine, and the graphics are a big WOW. I'm very impressed, but, when I climbed to the top of the hill and saw the boat, I remember thinking "ok, where's the alien...there's got to be one somewhere". Then, bang, there it is.

I, too, will buy the game, and play it...Comfy and I should be standing on street corners...

Taking graphics out of the equation, you still have the ability to drive a truck into a building and possibly killing the bad guys inside by falling debris.

The physics are very nice, and I think you will see more to the game once you can try the MP side out. However, with all these new game and their cool physics, you loose 85% of these things in MP (physics).

hell you get nukes in MP and with the tools already released I'm sure we will see new maps, mods and conversations very soon. Hell all I want is a WWII mod.

Here is a shot of DX9 ultra settings via custom ini (which is 99.9% of the DX10 visuals without running vista)

OK, I must be loosing it, I thought I posted this already in this thread.

Agreed...and that's my son's point...the vehicles, the chickens, etc. The physics of the game are slick and well thought out. I just hope the game play in SP...the actual "track" of the game...improves over the demo. The AI were underwhelming. And, I'm looking forward to the MP as well. I really love the Sandbox, and could easily see a WWII mod.

One small point... If you are running with all of the settings on low the truck your driving will bounce off the building and the guy will come out and shoot you! You don't get the destructive environment on low settings... It's a different game on "LOW" guys...

The AI is just a dumb, kinda reminds me of coop on Joint Operations, damn that's where they got the bots from! They even look the same! Higher in some cheap labour in from another game LOL Just about the only thing they don't do is body dance on your corpse.

PS if you never played JO then your not missing much except truly beautiful sun rise and sun sets... If you did play JO then you know what I mean about the bots...

This is JO and you know what Crysis on low looks a bit like this too...
