Hey guys,
I hope you can help me with a problem I have on my Breakthrough Server. I have it hosted in the U.K by a company also for the record. Basically in the last while or so (Im not entirely sure) the rcon on the server has not been working at all. I type rconpassword ****** and there is no response. If I type rcon say hi nothing also happens (It would normally work or at least say bad rconpassword but not now), and this happens with all of the rcon commands. As well as this using rcon with a program like AI doesnt work either so remote programs are also useless. If anyone would know how to fix this so I could get the control back of the server again I would be very thankful,
PattonIRL.

First guess - the dreaded rcon bug. Servers with 17/18 or more players tend to lose rcon after a while. The cure? Reboot. Nope, not restart the server, but reboot. Apparently something that gets spawned hangs and stopping the server program won't kill it. You have to reboot the box. It sucks, but there it is.

Actually Hackers

Yes I found about a week ago that this rcon strangely started working again. However a day later that the server was infested with hackers continuing to hack the server with things such as cmd leave team, console messages, etc, as I write this post. Whenever these hackers come onto the server somehow I lose all rcon power for the server. I cant kick them with rcon or check their IP to ban them. Somehow you also cant call a vote to kick these guys. Even programs such as CI or AI dont connect so you cant use powers on that to do something. The only thing I can do is restart or stop the server via an online panel. I really would love some help here guys as this is a really annoying ongoing problem about me wanting to ban all hackers that ever come on my server. Thanks,
Patton.

I posted an excerpt from an older thread and made it sticky (in the Spearhead section, since that is where it started) of patches and fixes to various cheats. You might look into some of those sources. You may also want to ask the hosting provider to give you a copy of the server logs (assuming you can't just ftp them down your self. You may be able to see what IPs they are coming on from and then use CI to ban them. As long as they can't get on they won't be able to take over the rcon.

Also consider changing your rcon password. It's amazing how sometimes that solves it. ;)

Dont know if it applys to sh as im a aa player, a few months ago people were able to take over your rcon without being in the game. adding seta sv_allowdownload "0" worked but they still were able to stop commands from coming into the server. I have a fix but its for aa so im thinking why not apply the same method. My fix has the old fixes as well the stop of people trying to stop commands. but you need to add to your server.cfg seta sv_allowdownload "0"
