PC Server - Quick match questions

Hi,

I have 2 questions about BF3 Quick Match on the PC and was wondering, could you answer them for me?

1. Is there any settings I need for Quick Match to work, as long as the server is not classed as Custom present and is ranked?

2. Does mixed BF3 orginial Maps and Back to Karkand, stop quick match?

1. Essentially yes. For specifics on settings see the server docs.

2. Yes, but it depends on the filter settings, but in my experience it's better to populate with vanilla maps only in the map list for quick match players.

I looked in the BF3 R21 docs, and all I found was

Quickmatch
First off, there is the Quickmatch operation.
Quickmatch will only go against ranked servers. Also, the ping site setting is taken into consideration; players will have a slight preference to game servers which belong to the player’s closest ping site location.
If the user has not selected any filters in the server browser filter, then a couple of default search criteria will be applied:
- Preset: Normal (see below)
- Game Mode: Rush, Conquest, Team Deathmatch
- Game: Base game only (not Back to Karkand)
If you select any items in the following categories in the server browser filter, then they replace the corresponding default criteria:
- Preset
- Game Mode
- Maps
- Game (base / Back to Karkand)
Other categories have no effect on quickmatch.

Ok I am getting a bit confused now.
I have been told:
I need to have 1 game mode for quick match to work, as it will not work with mixed game mode.
So, is there any truth in this?
If they is the case, I couldn't have Rush, Conquest and Team Deathmade game modes, but would have to have just one of them, for quick match to work.

you know, in the end, there is no way to monitor by what method the players use to join your server.

I have no idea about the mixed game mode, what I recall is the most popular game mode is non-hardcore Conquest Small.

I run a TDM hardcore that flips to TDM CQLarge when it hits the 17th player - using Ultimate Map Management plugin - and we also use the Adaptive server size, plus the Adaptive slot count plugins. If we populate that server early enough in the evening, we will fill it to its 32 slot limit. Had been a 64 slot, but toned it down to 48 slots, much less hectic.

I didn't think there would be a way to find out how the player joined.

What I am trying to do, just like the rest of the server owners, is to optimize players joining, so thought I would try and tap into Quick Match players.

It seems to me, there is little into about how Quick Match works.

I came here trying to figure out the same thing. We're just getting back into BF3 after a break. Getting excited for new maps, and the break was nice. But we've lost all pubs.

The last two nights we've had between 8-12 members, only clan members, and the server was completly free of any pubs. What do I have to do to get pubs on the server these days? Put an ad on craigs list?

Our server is HERE IN BATTLELOG and now its set to CUSTOM.

I swear we used to get pubs even when it was CUSTOM but after several hours in the evening the last few nights, we're only seeing our own members get in.

We normally do not want killcam, regenerate health, or needing 8 players to start the game but that seems to kill quickmatch. Am I missing something here??

We also have a procon layer working.

Hi,

I think your problem is you are running a custom present, according to battlelog.

I have been told on another forum:
About if mixed game modes affect QM

As far as I know you can def have TMDM CONQ and RUSH all on the same map rotation with no quick joiner problems BUT you can not have a mixed or game modes :

HARDCORE
INFANTRY
Normal on the small rotation

If you seem to be not getting many players or quick joiners on your server, this is because BF3 does not tend to send to many players to non active servers e.g. servers with 0 players-- You have to have at least 1 player on your server even if hes idling :) To get the ball rolling I tend to find :)
I find it amazing, there is very little info in the docs about Quick Match, and what you can and can't do.
I am thinking about emailing Battlefield 3 support for info about QM.

Quickmatch settings with 8 plays to start a round is INSANE. So frustrating! At least that is what procon sets it to when we click the procon quickmatch option. Is that still legit?

I'm contacting my server host about PING as well. Its listing it as PING -MS so perhaps theres a block somewhere and the quickmatch doesn't like that.

Not, sure according to the R21 docs, as I posted above in one of my replies, it doesn't refer to any limits.

We run the Apdaptive Server Size plugin on ProCon, which lowers the amout of slots, for example when it empty it slow 0/4 slots
When there is 4 players is show 4/6 slots etc... all the way up to 18 slots.

Hi,

No, ours has the ping number.
I remember once, when we first got it, it show -MS, but I wasn't an admin on the server then, only the clan founder had access, so not sure what caused that.

Have you tried restarting it, maybe worth a try.

I have now ping MS showing, not sure if my guys did something or its just something weird with battlelog.

Set it to quickmatrch in procon, maybe the ping did have something to do with it, servers been full all night, both of them. Who knows.
