IP Masking Issues

I was recently on the receiving end of a directed attack on my PC. It did not do what it intended due to my Norton Firewall and anit-virus utilities. I am growing more and more uncomfortable with having my WAN IP sitting out there in every server log where I play (go ahead--call me paranoid). I want to mask my IP for playing online games. And yes, eveyone is going to freak out and think I'm some a-hole that wants to cheat his butt off and not get caught--well, think what you like. There are more serious reasons than cheating to want to hide your IP. Is there any software out there that lets you do this for online games? I use iPrivacyTools for web surfing (hides me behind a proxy-server when on the net), however, it does not mask my IP when playing online games. If anyone has any suggestions or have something they use, please chime in. Help would be much appreciated.

If you are hosting a game, there is no way to mask your IP. Other comupters need to know where to connect to, so DNS pointers or redirects will still go to your IP address.

If you are not hosting, there are ways to mask your IP, just do a google search on it. Plus if you do not have a static IP, just reset your modem and your IP willmore than likely change. I have a static IP myself, and have been probed heavily at times, but good firewalls and Internet safety practices have kept me out of harms way.

I've been using linux, so I never have to worry about viruses or anything of the like.

Its practically impossible to hack a linux system, especially when its behind a firewall.

To spoof ips you need to do tons of stuff. and only extreme hackers will be able to do it. and you would not be able to server the game if you even did this.
