I know how to use in game rcon for kicking, but I hate alt tabbing to ban some jagoff who just doesn't get it.

Anyone know of the in game rcon command to ban a person?

/rcon ban playername doesn't seem to work.

just open your console and type:

ban

it will show you the two commands used for ban. One will require the clientID (which is sometimes much easier), and the other will require the exact spelling of the player's name.

The clientID can be gotten with a \rcon status command with the BIG console open (SHIFT-tilda).

Of course, this all assumes you are successfully communicating with the server via the in-game console. I've been having sporadic success with that lately. :/

I found that I need to put in /rcon host <serverIP:pORT> and /rcon login <password>

To get status to work.

Status does work like previous version and you can ban by client ID#

Works for me...

\rcon host ip
\rcon login pwd
\rcon status
\rcon clientkick #

They all work for me. My server is so full and since the reserved slot function doesn't always work, I have been kicking players to make room for our core group of players. Right now I haven't banned anyone because I'm not sure anyone is cheating, though we've had some suspect players on the server...so for the first 2 weeks I'm just kinda watching...after things settle down, then I'll swing the Ban Hammer if I find someone cheating.

Not to take this too far off topic, but on that last note about cheating I have to ask this question.... Is VAC doing anything as of yet? There seems to be an inordinate amount of "suspect" players and like Colon (interesting name LOL) I'd hate to swing that ban hammer on guys who are really great players. Bad Company 2 proved to be a ban-happy game for us after the teleport hack made it's way to our server... I REALLY don't want that to happen again especially with this game having just come out.

Anyway, back to the topic... has anyone come up with a complete list of rcon commands yet? I'm trying to set up a list of commands our server admins (who are less experienced in console) can print and use so we're not all alt-tabbing out of the game to deal with ass-hats.

VAC uses a delayed ban system, using a 3 strike system. So if you're caught cheating on 3 separate occasions, you will be banned when they 'batch' ban everyone.

Both instant banning and batch banning have pros/cons.

expect to see the first lot of threads within a fortnight.

/rcon status doesn't work like previous cods at all. So you cant ban a person by their client id #.
I'm actually having a big problem with this right now. On CoD World At War, when I use the ingame rcon or any outside rcon tool to ban one person, no one can join the server anymore and they are greeted with this message" You are permanently banned from this server". This didn't happen on CoD4 but on WaW, I do /rcon banclient 2 (for example) and ban one person from the server. Next thing I know, I can't join our own server and no one else can either. We have been at it all day to find out what is different in WaW that keeps causing this problem. Ban one person bans all future players - weird

Be very careful of following any directions from the above posts as these all have to do with BLACK OPS exclusively.

I get the idea that your problem is with a World at War server and they run different than what is being talked about here.

I think there is a WaW section here to so you might get better instructions in there.

My bad guys I was googling my problem and this is the closest thing I found so I figured it was that game. I didn't check to see for BO.
