Well its no surprise that the "Devs" have not answered the question about mod tools. I posted that we are awaiting approval to answers those questions.

But I'll have a go for you with the obvious caveat that I am not a Dev.

Mod Tools are a FAR bigger project than most would realise. If the game sells well, and the demand is there, then there will be the financial incentive to divert staff to that project as well.

As it stands most staff move to after-release support next month, there is already a prioritised wishlist of stuff to be done/added after release, a lot of which has been gathered here, so thanks for that. Staff that arent directly involved with this support more than likely begin doodling about HF2. :D

I understand the logic behind that thinking, but that's just self defeating. No mod tools promised or released at game release only means those who want mod tools may not buy the game at all.

I guess we're all playing chicken here. People like me don't want to risk buying a game with no guarantee of mod tools. KAOS, risks mod tool release on a game that people like me may not buy. So if people like me don't buy it, then they can say there wasn't enough interest to justify spending the time/money on releasing them.

I've been suckered before into buying a game with little support ... and it's not happening again. I didn't buy MOH. I didn't buy Black Ops. And I want to like this game, I really do, but I'm really souring on it. I want to believe that smaller developers wish to give us PG gamers the support that the EA's and Activisions don't...

So far they're failing my test of how much they care about and want to support the PC gaming platform. Seems like they just want to make a quick buck like the big companies and walk away to make another game.

Which brings back my original questionning: How will Kaos / THQ measure that demand? I'll be frank, this just sounds to me like a resounding : NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Im sure you see my point. Modtools were also talked about, even promised for Frontlines Fuel of War but they were never released:

Will there be modding tools?
Yes, modding tools are to be included with the game upon release. However, while Xbox.com promises user-created content on the Xbox 360, it does not appear that this will be the case. User-created maps and mlds will be limited to the PC version only.
It does start to look like a carrot on a stick to be honest....

I know you arent at liberty to discuss all and may not know everything on the subject but thanks for taking the time and trying to find those answers for us Kinsman!

Mod tools will be the last thing they will be thinking about at this time. I highly doubt they will release them after the game has been released as well. They will probably start working on follow up as soon as possible. That seems to be the trend nowadays.

Thanks to Edmar for the answers and to you Kinsman for getting them out to us all.

I still see some work to do, especially with the Clan match side and various other things like a Hardcore mode etc but the up side is that these discussions here at FPS appear to have focused Kaos on the things that PC players and Admins want in their servers and they now have a list of things to look to include even if its post release.

In addition the discussions started with the B3 team have been as a real result of the efforts of many admins here working to help Kaos get the Rcon tool on the way..

Hats off to all those involved in that effort and well done Edmar and the team for being so willing to listen and react in such a very pro-active way.

I hope this level of support will continue well after the release..;)

I am no developer but I would like to think it can be added into the server config so we can turn off the hud & crosshairs & turn on Hardcore mode. With all the technology we have & developers have at their fingertips, it should not be that hard.

Please give the PC community Hardcore mode, Mod Tools & the ability to create custom maps.

With just a couple of weeks to go I wonder if we might get a little update on the status of the server files?

1) Are they ready to be shipped with the game release?

2) If not what are the plans for playing multiplayer on day 1?

3) At what stage is the planned rcon tool support for B3?

4) What size are the server files now?

5) Has a delivery system been sorted out to allow admins to get them onto their boxes?
Yes I know you stated steam tools but that would require admins logging into a version of steam on their servers and that's not a good idea really.

Thanks

Sending these to Edmar now to see if we can update them, but heres a quick one from me.

Yes the Server Files are ready.

No it was never anybody's intention to release them Day One, its still 2 weeks after

You would need to ask the B3 guys where they are up to, I do know that Procon will be ready.

Current Filesize is 1.50 Gig neat.

As far as I know it is still Steam Tools. As I have mentioned to others you could just download to your own Steam Account, then Upload to the Server.

Thanks Kinsman.

So whats the plan for Day 1 multiplayer or are Kaos saying it will not happen until the server files are released?

Thanks for your continued help with all this..;)

Theres a steadily growing list of GSP's who will be running servers on Day One, I'm also working on getting that listed posted for you ASAP.

The premise is simple, we all know from experience that things can possibly go wrong with a world-wide release. As much as we all like to hope it will be flawless, the Studio needs to be able to have immediate contact with all server providers if changes are needed. Hence the 2 week delay until the files go public.

With proper beta test with GSPs and a fairly large test player team this wouldnt be necessary... then again as long as the "2 weeks" delay doesnt become a month or more i have no problem with it. I can also understand that KAOS Studio may be limited financially for large tests and so this delay would be justified.

I'll ask a question, then.

What is the priority list, post-release, of things that Kaos will spend time on to either fix the game or spend time on to give PC users. And where on that list (if on the list), are mod tools and/or any plans for adding more serverside options.

Assuming 'demand' is there ... we know it is despite the vague or rude responses from KAOS, it's just a matter of spending the time to make those things happen or not.

Heres a nice update for you today.

HLDSUpdate Tool WILL be supported. Not at release however, only when the files go public 2 weeks later.

For now the GSP's will patch manually, and then cutover to the HLDS Supported version that you guys get when its released. :D

Multihoming confirmed working today.

Multihoming: If you would like to assign a specific IP address to your server, simply add this to the end of your startup line. -multihome=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Game server files

Hi. I am admin of game server. Can I make my server under Linux? if not, will KAOS develop that? They should know that they can't ignore Linux game server admins.
