Still they have at least stated that dedicated servers will be shipped with the game so the only real questions are in what format i.e. ranked etc and will the files be made public?
Well we have all seen how well keeping server files from the public worked out in BC2 and MoH Beta. It just created more of a demand for them and they got leaked within months.

I honestly don't see cod moving to a central server stats system like Battlefield. It costs money to upkeep that sort of system. That's why I think cod has been using client side stats storage since CoD4. It's also pointless to keep ranked files from the public if the stats are stored on the client thus allowing stats modification applications to be used.

Where a normal game would have gotten leaked before release. So it's not a perfect system. But as you know, the more hoops you have to make them jump through, the lesser their numbers become.

Unfortunately it won't matter. MW2 proved that. Look at the newest map pack ( a real map pack and not game modes added to existing maps :p ) that came out today. It's on the top of the steam best sellers list.

There are far more people who seem to have money to burn than people who will hold out because a game doesn't have DS etc.

Yea thats just it enough people didn't vote with their wallets. I have friends who are still playing this game daily. Can't understand why but they are IWnet is like being stuck in a bus full of little children for hours.

I got to be honest here...I'm very surprised there isn't more "buzz" about BO here. Are we all so jaded? I know I'm skeptical...but the more I hear, the more promising this game sounds.

After MW2 and WAW (neither of which I bought or had interest), I focused entirely on MoH for hope. Thus far, I'm not even considering MoH. The Alpha, the PR, the marketing...all second rate, if not 3rd rate, IMO.

But BO, that's turning into a different story. It seems Treyarch is giving the FPS game back to the PC gamers. Although I still remain guarded...

Scroll wheel - yes.
Prone - yes.

The famous one that's open to interupation, as there are many levels of "modding"...but I like the "dev consoles" confirmed.

We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game.

And, dev console: confirmed.

BTW, I love the enthusiasm I've seen from the PC community since we announced this title. I know you are hungry for more more more info. Sept 1 will be here soon.

And my favorite....

Es wird, und da war Josh recht schnell mit der Antwort, KEINE (!) Steampflicht geben. Es wird zwar ebenfalls auf Steam eine Version geben, die allerdings eben eher der Vollständigkeit halber vorhanden ist.

There will be, and Josh was quite quick on this Answer, NO forced Steam. However, there will be a Steam Version, but thats more of a completion thing. - JD_2020

So now we just need to define "dedicated servers", and change the request. I don't think we should just inquire about "dedicated servers", but more about server files.

Get that answer, and I will know within a second if BO is on my purchase list. I mean, even if the core game does suck...modders always keep me playing. Provided they actually release a full version of modding tools.

I killed from a C-130 in CoD4 before MW2 was ever even announced, and I did it because of a modder.

In conclusion...I do believe we will see the closest thing to the "golden age" (CoD2) of FPS in BO than anything else currently out there.

Why didn't you buy W@W? Tired of the WWII era?
Up until the BO title, I wasn't thrilled with other studios doing CoD titles to begin with. UO had it's place, but I don't think it was ever taken seriously.

Couple that with the fact that the "console feel" was being pushed into the CoD series, I was fully aware that Treyarch, up until that time, had only worked on console games for the CoD series (with CoD2:BRO and CoD3). I simply had no faith. I tried the demo and felt it was "okay", but nothing spectacular.

With BO though, it really feels like Treyarch is going down the list of things that PC FPS gamers wanted from MW2 and didn't get, adding them to BO, and checking them off the list.

At this point...I'd honestly be surprised if they don't release the actual server files.
