We're trying to figure out what to do about running the new DLC maps. We only have one server and have a hard time getting it filled up. We have experience with this sort of fracturing of the community from our BF2 days, Special Forces expansion and Booster packs really forced everyone to specialize.

We assume most admins will want to run the new maps, but will you run them exclusively or a mix? If a mix, what will you do about players who get booted for not owning the DLC?

B2K didn't have this problem since basically everyone could afford free as the cost of the DLC.

One theory we have, based on experience with the waning days of BC2, is that we could run vanilla only, no new DLC maps, as a haven for people who can't play on all their favorite servers that have gone DLC only. Not sure how effective that is going to be, though.

My clan still has not decided if we are all going to get the DLC. Some of the guys got really pissed off about CoD:Blops DLC. I'm not sure this is any different. I know we didn't bother with the DLC for BF:2 but Spec Ops was different enough to be good. You could also set your server BF:2 one week and Spec Ops the next. It was a pisser that you couldn't mix the maps...

Up untill R25 came out, I was thinking about running CQ on our server that does not get much/any traffic. Now I am not sure.

We got the R25 patch early from our host, and I loaded the maps through procon and restarted the server.

Now instead of 32 slots, it showed 0/16 slots... If Close Quarters is limited to 16 slot servers, I dont see much hope in a successful server either way. On a positive note, I have not bought any DLC, so at least I found out about this before shelling out more money to the "PC first" giant.

That is correct - it only officially supports 16. But apparently more can join but battlelog will only show 16. At least that's the word on the street. Maps are probably sized for 16 anyway.

Thx woo2

Yeah, just has me worried. On the other hand, if EA is copying the cod model, and looking at Blops map sizes and player counts - the kids love caos. For me the more players the crazier the action. As well as easier to keep populated, once you get them going for the day. The end of the round drop off is easier to absorb. Guess we'll find out about CQ soon enough. thx :salute:

We have in excess of 16 slots on our server and can confirm that while procon shows the right count - Battlelog only shows 16.

Thanks Maydax and woo.

Funny thing about the topic of CQ...

Seems I was quite confused. Apparently, only "premium players" have access to CQ for two additional weeks? Second class citizens have to wait to buy CQ as a stand alone DLC purchace? Hopefully I am wrong, and its available and just not finding it. If not, DICE has found a new way to fracture a limited playerbase. Some guys have premium and their clanmates dont. fun

Premium gets it 2 weeks early. So, unless you buy the package you can't play yet.

Ziba Tower and Scrapmetal are the smallest 2 of the four CQ maps. I would not recommend more than 20 players.

The other two (Donya Fortress & Project 925) are larger.

We will be running Project 925 and Donya Fortress in our 64 player rotation for 1 round each as fillers between the stock and B2K maps.

We put up a separate 16 man server to handle the CQC maps exclusively. This way we could keep the original 32 man server running the original maps and karkland for those that didnt or wont buy the newest expansion maps. I know this is not the normal manner for most groups so I am thankful that our group supports our servers so generously financially.
