Battlefield V : Rental servers later this year

Via the official Batltefield forums, Braddock512 has posted the following regarding rental servers for BF:V

Yes, take this as your confirmation that RSP is coming to Battlefield V and work is already underway.
The title of this Broadcast is “The Evolution of RSP” and that’s an important factor to consider. As we progress, we’ll be taking the RSP program as you know it and rebranding it as “Private Games”.
We’ve got a lot of information to cover, but let’s hit the highlights first:
  • RSP is now rebranded as Private Games
    • It’s coming after this Summer
    • It will be available for all Battlefield V players
    • We plan to offer the base level of Private Games tools for FREE
More about Private servers

We’ll be rolling out Private Games after this Summer to all Battlefield V owners, and development will evolve over time. Today, we want to detail what you can expect for the first release.
Private Games will grant you the ability to create your own Battlefield V server, directly from within the main menu, or through a browser via a new web service that we’re creating. The servers that you create will remain online while there are people playing on it. If no one is active on the server, it goes away. But don’t worry! With the server configs saved locally, the ability to quickly start a new Private Game or switch between various server setups will be available.

woopie! private games. unranked, but then rank is capped at 50 from the start. Aahh. Amazon cloud. I knew that the servers ip addys were changing daily - you cannot save a server - its # will disappear. And that also involves servers changing during gameplay. Not just a server acting up and kicking everyone. TOOLS... right. sure. No Homer drool here.

PS. the usual admin server cfg changes available. Hmm. Free. Except for the headaches of getting a server to fill. And will they be accessible to Join Now or Play Now players.

Core Functionality
  • Create private game from main menu
  • Set custom name for the server
  • Set description for the server
  • Password protect the server
  • Control what maps are used within the map rotation
  • Control what game modes are available
  • Control the number of players needed to break pre-round
  • Kick players from the current game
  • Control what classes are available
  • Control what weapons are allowed
  • Control if vehicles are allowed
  • Control if the kill cam will be displayed
  • Turn friendly fire on or off
  • Turn regenerative health on or off
  • Change soldier tags as visible or not
  • Enable or disable third-person camera view
  • Enable squad leader spawn only
  • Enable or disable aim assist auto rotation
  • Enable or disable aim assist cooldown
  • Control bullet damage scaling
  • Control game mode ticket scaling
  • Control soldier and vehicle respawn timers
  • Turn the mini map on or off
  • Enable or disable the compass

those are console settings, they can't be bothered to take that out of the pc version. Lucky to have mouse support :p

No, RSP did not come out last fall, it may have been promised or detailed but no way no how. Remember, this is a game 6 months old that still ranks out at 50, which most of had done in 2 months.

At this point, these AAA games are console games we can play on PC. I'm not sure at this point if we can even call them "console ports" they have gone beyond that definition. When a console port just meant a downgrade in graphics or some dodgy controls it was understandable. There were still PC games to play. Now they are totally locked into the console way of doing things like servers and such. This is our new reality for big game like Battlefield. There are still games like Insurgency Sandstorm with the now normal rocky start that gets everyone pissed with the game as it's broken on release. Early access in everything but name. They are getting it sorted now 6 months after release. that is if anyone is still playing it?

not me, IS shenanigans pushed me away. I'd play BF1 but as soon as BF V came out, active full CQ servers dropped to 3 - first day, too - never seen anything like it. There are upto 6 full CQ servers at some point during the late afternoon/early evening, but I wanna play with my TS buddies in one game. BF V ... well, we're pretty used to it by now, 6 months in - we have picked up 2 new players - both old mates - but this game - with its console-itis isnt' going to last till the next title 2 years down the road, except for the diehards.
