Server docs are out. Interesting note is official mode and the limitations.

Quickmatch will only go against official servers. Also, the ping site setting is taken into consideration; players will have a slight preference to game servers which belong to the player’s closest ping site location.
The following are listed as "Disallowed on Official"

admin.movePlayer
admin.kickPlayer
admin.killPlayer
banList.add
banList.remove
banList.clear
banList.list
banList.load
banList.save
reservedSlotsList.aggressiveJoin
vars.commander

Yes -- it took us a long time to get manuals to a somewhate complete state and get a suitable hosting solution up.

I've created a thread for it over here, which has EAs download link: Latest server docs

I haven't looked at the docs yet - but it appears that official servers can't ban or use third party balance? What not ban? What about cheaters? /puzzled

Thanks for the updates Mikael. Just a quick question: Are there any command restrictions for PB in official mode? Since kicking and banning players is disallowed one could still use PB to do the same.

woowoo: 'official' limits server admin capabilities severely, yes. Such servers offer a consistent game experience which is in line with what Quickmatch players expect. You are part of an in-game community and you will probably find that 'ranked' suits your community better. You will not get Quickmatch traffic but there are multiple other ways via BL that you get traffic.

Maydax: ah. um. er. we'll have to get back on that.

Kalms I have to say I understand the need of the players to have a pure experience, but getting that experience off the back of paying admins and communities doesn't seem very fair.

I know that the game hasn't been released yet, so were not sure about traffic. But our individual group is spending $600 this month on a dedicated server and paying for server slots (including a london server), and now we're at a point where we may have to choose between the ability to actually be an admin and not just throw our name on something we have zero control over or possibly having multiple empty servers.

May I ask that you add another quick match option for ranked servers in general? Maybe even mix it in with official? Example: Quick match: Official, Quick match: Ranked

Again I completely understand that you are looking to give players an organic experience with battlefield, but in the same sense those communities that you are essentially cutting traffic to not only pays for the slots for servers which EA receives a fee for, but we rally our members into purchasing the game so they can play with us.

Thanks for reading my comment, I really appreciate it.

Also if you're official servers cut off PB configuration access, it's going to hurt our anti cheat communities such as PBBans.

Darn you Maydax, I thought the same thing as I was reading through the docs, but I was going to hold off saying anything until "testing" it.

Kalms,

Am I reading this part of the admin guide correctly?

If the server is to be set to official, an additional command (vars.mpExperience) needs to be put in the startup. All official servers needs a set experience to run. Also, please note that the mp experience will override any existing map list in the admin folder.
Are map lists in Official fixed to the one provided by the experience setting? If so, is the expectation that the Official servers will almost entirely EA/DICE and the ones GSPs are required to host under the RSP agreement, to provide a safe haven for quickmatch players? So far the settings and restrictions don't seem very friendly for the private operator, seems all we could do is set the name and the rest is off limits.

Yep, agreed 100 %

We got our BF3 traffic with quick matches and now this is taken away????

What's the use of renting servers if we have no control over them?

What are you guys doing? Totally ridiculous.

Best solution we can hope for here is that DICE implement a "quick match- ranked" option, otherwise ranked servers will stagnate except ones in huge existing communities, and admins will stop paying for and running them. Which means the GSPs won't run as many official servers.

Can I get my money back if I've pre-loaded?
If you preordered on Origin, you can refund up to 24h after you first launch it (or 7d of launch, whichever comes first): http://www.origin.com/news/origin-great-game-guarantee

You are overestimating how much of the BF3 player traffic you are getting from quickmatch. The bulk of random joins you were seeing were likely from people using the server browser or join-on-friend. I do not see that changing with BF4. I believe that running a server as ranked will work quite well for smaller communities too in BF4.

I do not know the ins and outs of the official server configuration, but I believe that the maplist is not controllable on those. Not sure how PB configuration is intended.

Do you have any stats on quickmatch vs. browser joins in B3 that might help assuage concerns? Will the browser default to showing ranked+ or will it default to showing official only?

This is the key question IMO. Players mostly go with defaults.

I believe players will start on official then once the cheaters find out they are not policed then the average players will move to ranked. I hope.

Answering the second part here on a re read:

Then there is the server browser with its filters. One of the filter sections is the preset selection. By default, no filtering is done on presets (so the server browser shows all servers regardless of any game mode-affecting settings).
Sounds like it shows everything by default?

So Rush is going to be a 32 player game mode according to the docs?
Is this restriction likely to change or be changeable for Ranked servers?

We have aquired a 64 player server with intentions of running mixed mode (conquest and rush 64 player)... hopefully the restriction is for Official only..

Kalms,

Just to let you know, NFO servers is not letting people have access to some of their PB files. It shows in the server docs they are supposed to be allowed.

Read here: http://www.pbbans.com/forums/bf4-streaming-support-now-available-t177137.html?p=454257

Server documents state this:

Files which may be accessible to the server admin

EA decides which files the RSP may make available to the admin. It is up to each RSP how to facilitate this, and the extent to which access is given. The list below contains all the files which the RSP is allowed to give the server admin full access to:

Admin/*.txt
pb/svss/*
pb/svlogs/*
pb/*.cfg
pb/pbbans.dat
pb/pbucon.use
pb/sv_viol.log
pb/sv_cheat.log
So,What's going on??
